Speed Control Technology was awarded the contract for full electrics on the five Sandton-based cranes for the Bombela Gautrain Project. The cranes are employed in a high-speed tunnelling process, and as such, are classified under the Mines and Works Act.
SCT was awarded the contract for full electrics on the five Sandton-based cranes for the Bombela Gautrain Project. The cranes are employed in a high-speed tunnelling process, and as such, are classified under the Mines and Works Act.
Some shafts are 70 m deep, and the rated hoist speed of 55 m/min can be doubled with field weakening operation. The contract is for full control, installation and commissioning of the following
machines:
40t Sandton South
10t Sandton South
30t Park Station
30t E5 Shaft
40t Mushroom Park
The 30 and 40t cranes have powerful hoists (2 ´ 220 kW), with Ansaldo GT3000 frequency controllers operating on a master follower mode. The systems are PLC controlled. They feature automatic positioning and have wireless communication from the shaft bottom (UG station) by Bluetooth technology. The contract on SCT is valued at R 6.5 M.
