Speed Control Technologies designed, manufactured and installed frequency-controlled drive systems. This was to replace the original slip ring motor plus fluid coupling systems, to kilns at a specialized producer of chrome Glencore.
The benefit of using frequency control to drive a rotary kiln is strong. A high starting torque is needed, and precise acceleration and deceleration times are vital for correct safe operation. The kiln can be run as low as 1 Hz (2% speed), and the ability to extend operation beyond 50 Hz ensures that resonance speeds are avoided.
